The grate in the creek is a bore hole which relieves the water in the old coal mines so we don't get water in our basements. It's not one that discharges water constantly. I've never seen any evidence that is discharges large amounts of minerals. The creek coloring is normal to other run offs and creeks.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16231036138358662300noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6116143934104658455.post-66716934375886913352013-03-21T22:36:00.001-04:002013-03-21T22:37:26.203-04:00Snakes on the plane!http://blog.tsa.gov/2011/08/snakes-on-plane-and-turtles-birds-oh-my.html?m=1
The link is the latest post about her son who is off to college once again and she reflects on her younger children who are in middle and high school.

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I can really relate with my oldest in college for the 2nd year and my baby in middle school. A year ago when it was very hard for me with Cayla leaving home and going to college, it happened that I needed to go back to work. I went back to being a bank teller, (after 19 years). I had to work harder to get to my devotionals which I needed more than ever and to make time to read to my youngest who I wasn't home schooling any longer. Lizzy going back to public school presented new challenges for her that were never there before.

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Things that
are very helpful is being in a sound church and
being a part of that church, really. I mean being that church for Christ
when no one is looking. Am I doing that? By trusting in God's word and
sovereignty for the future and for the now, for that matter is what has
made a difference in my life. Reminding my very forgetful mind regularly
by reading the bible has renewed my mind, a greater help has been in
memorization.... then when I hear something at work or at the grocery
store or on the phone with a friend and there is bad news I can have
hope with the heaviness instead of it just feeling despair.

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Transitions are hard at times and joyous at others. I want always be there for my girls and husband, as long as God gives me breath to do so. My own progress or regression always seems to be up to me even though, the ugly side of me wants to blame others. Thank God we have a choice and have people in our lives to point that out. Its not what happens, it how we respond to what happens.
We were inspired by The Mellow Miller's craft project Wall art Dog Collage for Lizzy's malamute centerpiece. We used construction paper and lined filler paper. The blue of the eyes are tempra paint as well over black construction paper. We covered her malamute with clear contact paper because I thought the filler paper was weak in comparison and was concerned about the eyes, nose and mouth being picked off at school by other children if the corners lifted because we used elmers glue.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16231036138358662300noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6116143934104658455.post-386729884133692092012-04-06T21:33:00.003-04:002012-04-06T21:37:03.483-04:00Providential Dog WalkThe other night I was annoyed to be walking the dog because I thought it was my husband's job. Along the way a little boy of 10 was on his way home and a car was following him. He asked me to walk him home which I did. Pretty quickly my attitude changed. Will God use me when I feel inconvenienced? Would my attitude been different to begin with if I knew I was going to run into a little kid who needed help?

This got me thinking that our effect on others is monumental... can be monumental.God knows our every step and thought. (Proverbs 5:21a) My attitude should have been very different. Its hard to be kind and tenderhearted (Eph 4:32) when my heart isn't right. That night with the lil boy, it wasn't hard to be kind and tenderhearted b/c I clearly saw that he needed help. I don't always see that people around me need anything... I clearly see now. I hope this helps me to be content whether I'm walking the dog or doing something I think my boss shouldn't have asked me to do b/c "it's not my job". Sometimes it just is my job this time, so, why be upset about it, I need to be doing all things as unto the Lord. It's truly a small thing in comparison to what Jesus did for me in dying for my sins on the cross. I was reminded of this daily this week by thecatholic friends I work with had mass everyday leading up to Easter. It really blessed me to hear them explain why we should be grateful for Jesus did for us.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16231036138358662300noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6116143934104658455.post-79629580433960381322012-02-08T08:03:00.000-05:002012-02-08T12:36:48.726-05:00Valentines Box

I made finger puppets for our nursery (at church) this year. I got the idea from Etsy here. I didn't spend alot of time getting every cut correct because of time. My pattern for Jospeph and Mary was a stick of deodorant. I did this because I'd like to make more in the future for other lessons we do with the toddlers. A pattern I'll surly lose but not the stick :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

This is my 1st year having a child (of mine) as an adult. I look forward to her being home for this holiday. It's been an exciting year for her graduating h.s. and going on to college. I've grown as a person from this. O what an experience for the parents. I've learned to trust God in a bigger way for my children. I also see my role as mom a little different too. We are always mentors/mom for the rest of their life but something changes when the child is an adult....

I've been working now for 2 months and haven't had a chance to make anything crafty for Thanksgiving, but have been cleaning and organizing (& reorganizing) alot around the house.

I've also been thinking of extended family. Some I am not in contact with. They are in my thoughts and prayers. It's hard having a broken family, but I'm grateful for my husband's family, for their love and support and acceptance <3Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16231036138358662300noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6116143934104658455.post-15146147378107670382011-11-19T15:06:00.001-05:002011-11-19T15:15:55.169-05:00Spider how-to

I took Gunter to a dry creek bed which is not dry due to Hurricane Irene. He did really well on our walk and is sitting really well, so, I had to add his picture too. The river is high, there are leaves everywhere. But there's no damage that I know of in our area. It's been very windy and the river is up about 2 feet. The river marker that shows the height of the river in feet is covered with foliage so the picture didn't turn out well.

I have an old fashioned hydrangea tree that is very old. I took a branch and stuck it in a old window box flower pot and to my shock it grew. If only we could do this with money, I'd sow it all.
We found old silk flowers among the mass of craft things and took them apart to re-purpose them into hair accessories for my daughters. My daughters are 8 years apart and that is why some look they are for a young adult and some for a preteen :)
Supplies:
silk flowers
buttons
sequins
old ponytails, barretts, & clips
ribbon

Tools:
thread
needles
glue gun & sticks
scissors
plyers

Take apart the flowers but keep them in order so you can recreate it the way it was (if you wish). Figure out what you want your clip to look like. Sew the pieces together and to the clip. Where you cannot sew, then use your glue gun. I use very little glue for the clips, but you can use glue exclusively if you wish.

You could also use wire to secure the flowers in place to the clips.

I've had these things around the house and it cost nothing to make these clips today. My inspiration was at the mall where they are selling some clips for over $10. I can't fathom paying $10 for 1 clip!

If you aren't crafty and would like to buy some please check out my friend Jenna at Etsy: Frills And Fuss . She makes beautiful clips and they aren't from scraps around her house, (like mine are). All of her hair accessories are gorgeous and made from new materials.
